EPA withdraws Bristol Bay determination

ANCHORAGE, AK - Just weeks after the U.S. EPA released comments critical of Pebble’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement, the agency today withdrew the 2014 Proposed Determination. If finalized, the Proposed Determination would have safeguarded the Bristol Bay region – the world’s greatest wild salmon ecosystem – from the proposed Pebble mine and other large-scale industrial development by placing limits on the amount of mine waste that can be disposed of in Bristol Bay’s rivers and wetlands.

Again, not good...One of the last great wild places is likely to be impacted.

None in my mind. There are no doubt some individual GOP politicians who do, but the party as a whole cares about fast money, the environment be damned.

It was really bound to come to this. People found a loophole around criminal bribery laws (don't pay the bribe now, pay it later by "hiring" the politician when he leaves office.) So, it was inevitable that people with criminal thinking would run for office.
