Another reason why Mother Nature's favorite streamside Willow Tree is not only important to the fisherman but also to the farmer who needs bees for pollination of his crops.

Are all of these grass banked streams "Milwaukee Canals" the cause for bumblebees being put on the threatened species list?? Cry

Now if we could only fill in the "Hunger Gaps" for Brook Trout maybe a 9lb Brook Trout is a possibility??  Shocked

P.S. Now we know why everyone's favorite fly for bluegills in the Spring was the bumblebee fly. Roll Eyes

It's fundamental we begin to study mismanaged rivers and streams, because that's what we have.

No offense, and I'm not trying to start an argument, but what in the hell are you talking about?

"No offense, and I'm not trying to start an argument, but what in the hell are you talking about?"

https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/EndangeredResources/Animals.asp?mode=list&Grp=17

The small mammals that are disappearing were the main food of big brook trout and the small mammals holes provide homes for the bumblebees that are disappearing and I thought if you planted a willow tree by a stream for food for the bumblebees in the early Spring the farmer would be happy when his crops were pollinated and when the willow tree dropped its branches they would provide homes for the voles which would be the food for big brook trout and a fisherman would be happy when he caught the big brook trout and then the bumblebees could inhabit the vacant voles holes and the cycle continues. Embarrassed Embarrassed

"You can't have one without the other." Grin Grin

P.S. You can't bring back "Brook Trout Coasters" until you bring back the small mammals they need for food.  Huh Huh

Unfortunately, when they spray for the gypsy moth do they kill all the insects the voles eat to survive so the brook trout fisherman is unhappy and the farmer is unhappy because the voles have starved to death and the bumblebees are without a home??  Cry Cry

"You can't have one without the other." Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Maybe up North you need to plant some White Pines which aren't bothered by the gypsy moth and whose branches break off after a heavy snow which will provide a home for voles which in turn provide a hole for a bumblebee home the brook trout will eat the voles and you'll be a happy BIG brook trout fisherman.. Wink

Most of us have asked ourselves the same question.

Apparently blackberry bushes and willow trees are the worlds panacea.
