Wolf River

This page was last updated: June 16th, 1996.

Water Conditions

Water clarity:Clearing but now with the heavy rains it should be becoming stained again.
Water Level:9 on Cap's scale (under 10 is good). Again with the heavy rains watch for this to rise.
Temp:Upper 60's to lower 70's.

Hatches

The Brown Drakes are in full swing! The Grey Drakes are on the wane and the Sulphurs are done. Pteronarcys (Wisconsins answer to Montana's Salmon Flies) Stone flies are cruising high over the river and several medium size stones were also observed. Caddis have not been plentiful the last couple of nights.

Trout Tales

We fished the Wolf last Thursday and again Saturday. It was a great two week stretch and I have never seen the Wolf fish better! Numerous fish between 14" and 19" were caught and released during this period. Does it get much better than that? And this after last years extremely high water temeratures. This cool weather and rain should keep the river from getting to warm and maybe we will have a chance to fish the Cream Hatch and the late June stone flies!
