The Wolf River is in a holding pattern right now. Cold nights and cold rain has left the river pretty much where it was last weekend. The water is still cold (52 degrees) and a little high.
There is some hatching activity (Eastern Salmon Flies, various caddis, Hendricksons, Baetis, and midges), but not in the concentrations that trigger the fish to feed.
I floated the river's catch and release section both Saturday and Sunday, with my daughters drifting nymphs and me manning the oars. The fish are still very sluggish, and tough to find. There was some stocking of 6" brown trout, and my wife managed some action catching them.
Memorial Day weekend may feature more tough fishing unless we get a few warm, sunny days to get the hatches going. The river is literally bursting with nymphs and caddis larva, so the hatches should be very good this season.
