Weather: Clear/Warm
Water: 65 degrees/slightly murky
Hatches: Lots of activity
Time: 8 a.m. to noon
Comments: Fished both the Willow Race and the Willow Run this morning. Hooked a couple of browns about 12 inches each both on small beadhead hare's ears -- one fish on the Race, one on the Run. Neither had much play in them, though.
I should take some time to speak for the Willow. It's not so productive all the time. The fish are hatchery and they don't seem to care much for the mayflies. But it's a pretty stretch of water. It's thick with foliage right now, which is a problem for fly fishers. I dug a lot of line out of dead patches of black-eyed susans today. But there are still quite a few wildflowers blooming along the shoreline and if it's clear, it gets great sunlight earlier in the morning.
I hope we're not seeing a September like last year. It was always too warm and we were still hitting the 90s in October, as I recall.
