Comments: I had the opportunity to spend four days camping and fishing the WestFork the first part of this week. My evenings were spent at the campgrounds in Avalanch. Very relaxing to say the least. At any one time I do not think there were more than three campers in the park. I guess thats the luxury of getting away during the week. I had opportunity to check out some new areas of the Kickapoo down stream and well out of the park. Surface activity there was nearly nonexistant even though there were some mayflies and caddis about the stream. I was able however to coax a few browns up to 12-13" to my net. This was done with elk hair caddis in sizes 14 & 16. On the second evening I switched to a #14 cricket and did quite well. Again all browns. Early mornings I spent fishing well up stream from the campground but still in the special regs. water. There I was able to take all three species of trout with brookies dominating the catch. Again crickets and caddis were the! fly of choice. All were beautiful fish in their fall colors. What a great way to wind down another season.
