Weather: 70F, scattered rain showers, humid
Water: 61f, clear
Hatches: hex
Time: 8pm-1am
Comments: Tried the hex on the West Branch of the White for the first time this year. Got to the river about 8:30 to get set. A few flies appeared about 9:15, and the fish immediately responded. Caught two, lost one in about 1/2 hour. Not many flies hatching -- not many fish rising. One of the fish was a brown only about 12" but probably the fattest fish that size I have ever caught.
I then pulled out and checked the main branch of the White. Several cars there, with a few people packing up. They had experienced a lot better hatch than me. They had caught many fish, but nothing big. I stayed around waiting for a spinner fall until almost 1 am - listening to the bullfrogs, birds, crickets, etc. Never did here fish start rising again. Hope to head out again this week.
