Turtle Creek

Barron

6-1-99

Weather: Overcast
Water: Great
Hatches: Mayflies
Time: Noon-5pm

Comments: When I first arrived on the creek I noted some smaller mayflies coming off. I caught and released a few smaller browns with a size 16 mayfly imitation I tied myself. Then some big size 8 or so mayflies started hatching. The fish were really taking them. I caught and released 5 or 6 pretty nice browns till the mayflies were so thick the trout would only take about 1 out of every 30 or so that floated over them. I was using the biggest fly in my box, a size 12 hair wing that had a lot more hair than hook. It worked fine. I just watched and enjoyed the show when I couldn't get them to hit my modest imitation any more. Great day.
