Tomorrow

Portage

3/29/99

Weather: sunny
Water: low, 45degrees
Hatches: black stone
Time: 10:00-4:00
Comments: I arrived on the stream about 10am and started to swim a combination flashback olive #14 with a #16 PT trailer. I caught an 11" brown on the second or third cast, that set the tone for the day. I caught 10-12 browns by noon on that combination when I noticed a wonderful black stonefly hatch there were fish rising everywhere. I put on a dry and started to catch fish immediatly. For four wonderful hours I caught rising fish and caught fish casting blind. The wind was blowing hard but if my cast was off they would move to take the fly. I'm not a numbers guy but I must have caught 40+ fish. This along with great caddis hatches are spectacular, they are also hatches we won't be able to experience if the DNR doesn't decide to continue the early trout season. Please show up at the April 12 conservation meetings and vote YES! have a great season everyone and I hope to see you on the stream!
