Streamside Report

Lodi Spring Creek

Columbia

4-18-99

Weather: Cloudy, Cold(45F), Blustery, N winds
Water: Fairly clear & somewhat high
Hatches: none, except for a smattering of chironomids
Time: 10:30am - 1:00pm

Comments: Fished weighted nymphs and wet flies on upstream presentations to no avail; then turned around and fished downstream with a variety of marabou streamers and did much better. Best presentation seemed to be a #8 Wooly Bugger on 3x, with a split shot clamped to the leader some 8" above the fly. Most strikes came as the fly swung across the current; downstream fishing is much easier than upstream on Spring Creek, especially in the meadows below CTH "J" where the current barrels along at a deceptively fast rate. A brief but productive outing on a stream that is very easy to flyfish (and not usually as crowded as the Black Earth).
