Comments:Looking back in my fishing journal, I see iceout is about two weeks ahead of last year. The mild weather and warm rains we have had the last couple of weeks, will have the Steelhead off and running very soon! It's a good bet that by the end of next week fishing should really pick up on both the Sheboygan and Pigeon rivers. I feel early season is the best time to fish Steelhead. Most often you will have the rivers to your self. I have found the best presentation at this time of year is nymphs, stonefiles and wet flys. Remember, the water temp. is barely above 32 degrees. This will keep the Steelhead scattered. As the water temp. begains to rise, the rainbow will become more active. By 42 degrees most of the fish are heading for the spawning beds. At about 45 degrees you will find all Steelhead on the spawning beds. Look for gravel bars on the tail out of pools, always adjacent to deeper water. That is were you most often find the spawning beds. It's been my experience that once the big females have moved on to the spawning beds, Steelhead get lockjaw. By than it's time to change your presentation to a standard drift method. Spawn sacks, two egg spawn and yarn eggs work well on both the Sheboygan and Pigeon Rivers.

Good Fishing
