Weather: Partly cloudy
Water: little high, 24 inch visibilty
Hatches: hendrickson #16, stone #12
Time: 11:30-4:00
Comments: We started fishing at the Martell bridge at 11:30 and had good fishing on both beadhead hare's ear and beadhead pheasant tail nymphs. Most fish in the 8-10 inch range, with a couple to 14. It was probably around 1:00 when the mayflies started to appear. When I switched to drys, a size 16 red quill fooled a couple of fish, but it didn't seem to be a perfect match. The BWO's that had been out two weeks ago were not present today, but the best success was had with a size 18 parachute BWO. It didn't match the color of the naturals, but was about the right size. You can probably get away with that when the water is a little off. We went down river and fished at the 690th bridge at about 2:30. A few really large stoneflies were on the water. I've never seen them that large at this time of year, but I haven't fished the Rush at this time of year before either. I didn't see any takes of the stones.
