Comments: Rowan Creek 1, me 1. Caught a nice little brownie right off the bat on a Joe's Hopper. That time of year and was fishing in the marsh. Not many rises tho and the water was high due to yesterday's rain. But the creek bit back and dunked me while I was trying to retrieve an errant cast. Such is fishing.
This is home water for me as I live in Poynette and after several months of regular fishing, I am still not sure what to think of Rowan. There are a surprising number of fish in this creek but it is remarkably difficult from both a technical and physical standpoint. Fairly narrow casting lanes and treacherously deep pocket holes. Throw in the mucky/muddy bottom areas and it can be enormously difficult to catch fish here. Especially since the fish tend to be down 3-4' in the 1'wide channel next to a bank. But the water does clear up very quickly after a rain and is frequently gin clear. If nothing else, after fishing Rowan, the Black Earth and anything even semi-wide, seems like a wide open river. Plus, my casting accuracy is getting waaaaaaaay better out of necessity.
