Comments: Trout have moved out of their deep winter holes and are now dispersed along the pools, riffles, runs, and undercuts of the Rowan. If you fish here, bring a good supply of patience and a short rod. Try to avoid windy days, as it can be difficult to land a cast on this narrow stream in a stiff north or south wind. Well meaning citizens in Poynette will stand high over the stream with their labrador retrievers, spooking every wild brown for 100yds while they compliment you on the artistry of fly fishing. School kids love to load up the pools and runs with sticks and other trash. Despite these minor exasperations, brilliantly colored wild trout await the skillful angler in the Rowan. For a narrow stream it can be surprisingly deep; too deep for hip-boots in many places. This is a fine little brook for dry fly devotees; the trout are usually willing to rise, and weighted nymphs get snagged too often for pleasant fishing.

Rig up a #14 Parachute Adams on a 5x leader and have a go! Stealth and accuracy are the watchwords, but there are many trout to fish over and action can be surprisingly fast.
