Steelhead Report

Root River/Twin Rivers

3/28 & 3/29

Fished the Root River on Friday, March 28. Water was 49 degrees, murky, and fairly low. Fish were very active and on the move. The wier was emptied on Thursday and by mid-afternoon on Friday had over 800 fish again! Caught 3 steelies, 1 on a stone fly and 2 on egg flies. The crowds make it very difficult to fish; sometimes I think anglers outnumber fish! And most of them seem to wade where they should fish, continually spooking fish off of redds.

Drove up to Two Rivers on Friday night with plans to fish the East and West Branches of the Twin or the Kewaunee on Saturday. Don't bother wasting your time driving to Manitowoc or Kewaunee counties for a couple of days, the rivers are all near flood stage and unfishable. I never even wet a line. The water is higher than I have ever seen it in the last four years. This should mean lots of fish are making there way up river, but the water needs to drop and clear up significantly before you can fish.

Tight lines -
