Steelhead Report
Root River
3-9-97
Drove down to the Root River on Sunday 3/9/97. First time I'd ever been
to the Root. Hooked two steelies with orange glo bugs, only to loose
them in the fast currents. Saw about a dozen fish landed during the
day. Most caught in the morning. Action really sloped off after ten.
Half the fish I saw caught were fresh, the other half dark ones. Most
fly anglers were using black flys and other patterns but I couldnt tell
what they were using.
Word of mouth info tells me the Kewaunee River is still froze shut, so
it looks like the only fishable streams are south.
It sure is nice to shed some cabin fever and hit the streams!
