Streamside Report

Potowatami Creek

Walworth

4/11/99

Weather: overcast
Water: clear and cold
Hatches: Midges
Time: noon till 2:00

Comments: I was supposed to cut the grass but the weather kept the lawn too wet. Decided to try one of the creeks feeding into Lake Geneva. I had heard stories about big rainbows in that creek but it never looked fishable. Brought my flyrod and an ultralight spinning combo. What a SURPRISE! There are trout in this creek and they are beautiful! I was not too successful with the flyrod. Too hard to cast but I caught a bunch of browns on micro spinners. One fish was over 15". They were particularly active at the mouth of the Abbey harbor. A number of fish were rising to midges on top. I've fished this lake for 18 years and never even tried the stream. Next time I'm bringing the 6'6" 3 weight.
