Streamside Report

Plover

Marathon

6\11\98

Weather: Rain
Water: rising
Hatches: drakes/sulfurs/caddis
Time: evening

Comments: This was probably the single best trout fish outing I have ever had. A buddy and I hit the plover around 5:30 (in the pouring rain). Despite the hatches, I predominantly used beaded hairs ear and beaded wolly buggers (black). I landed 9 browns that were between 12-16 inches, along with numerous small brookies. The 16"er made two leaps a good foot out of the water, I have never had this happen with a in-land stream trout before. The big browns were very active this evening. I had seen big drakes drift by unbothered by the trout. I think the rain kept them down. I put trout back so they'll be bigger next time!!! Im still waiting for a 20+".
