Streamside Report

Pine River Wild Rose

May 17, 1997

Weather: Sunny mid 60'
Water Conditons: 54-56 clear and normal
Hatches: Hendrickson and caddis

Comments: I took 2 of my friends turkey hunting in the morning and then we when fishing on the Pine River outside Wild Rose. It was the first time out with my new fly rod that I bought on sale last fall. I've been just dyeing to get out and try it. Well, the rod turn out to be great and so was the fishing.

I started out with a caddis fly because I had seen a few as I was getting my gear on. I did not have any hookups with the Caddis fly so I switched to a classic style Hendrickson fly and land a few fish and missed even more, so I switched to a parachute style Hendrickson and started land more fish then I missed. As the after noon went on the Hendrickson hatch got better.

I was also using the new CORTLAND 444 CLEAR CREEK line for the first time. I was able to pull many fish out of the same hole, which is something that I was not able in the past with 333. The Clear Creek has a 8' long front section and a dark olive color that seem to not spoke the fish as much as the old 333. Just my $.02, I have no financial evolvement with Cortland.

My 2 friends who went up river did good on caddis flies, they said that they did not see many Hendricksons up river. I wouild guess that was because it was more woods up river.

Well that's it for now and I hope to get out again this week if the weather would get better.
