Comments: Fished the Pine river today mostly to scout out the territory for a later return trip and was pleasantly surprised at the bug activity on and above the water. Small Sand Sedge females w/ egg sacks were drifting onto the surface. This prompted me to make a few casts which lead to a few more and before I knew it a few hours had gone by. The fish that stand out the most is one I never landed. A large Brown that decided, once seeing me, that downstream was a better place to be. My little 6' 2" 3wt rod with a 8X tippet didn't holp up to the pressure. With an all to familiar crack, the tippet snapped and the Brown swam to safety. At least with the barbless hook on the tiny #18 Princes Nymph he should be able to shake it loose easy enough. I would have liked to have taken a snapshot of that fish but I know he'll be there for another day.
