Streamside Report

Pine River

Waushera

4-18-99

Weather: Overcast, sporadic light rain, high 50's
Water: medium flow-54 degrees
Hatches: some miniscule flies
Time: 3-6 PM

Comments: Fished the lower Pine for about 2.5 hours on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised with the results. I used the same fly the entire time (it was rescued on several occasions). The fly was a black beadhead leech, ala Ross Mueller, and the brown trout could not resist. The fish were where you would expect them to be, mostly in deep runs and bend pools. Had about 8 strikes with 5 fish landed in the 8-12" range. I hooked a larger fish but lost him when I tried to reel in slack line to play him off the reel. Overall a 4 star day on the water. Let's pray the natural resources board doesn't take away our early seaon.
