Comments: Nice late winter outing. Caught 8 small to medium browns (8-13") on #16 crane fly larval imitation fished deep, but many fish just looked closely at it before moving away. No battlewagons today, in fact there seemed to be fewer large fish around than I saw last season. Poaching? Used 18'leader, 6' 5x fluorcarbon tippet -w- strike indicator set at various depths. Not enough fish were feeding regularly near the surface to warrant switching to midges. The larger browns fought well, and it was great to feel that electric bend in the rod after a long winter. Several trout were finning inside the spring house. Canada geese were my only companions today.
