Comments:
Fished the lower part of the Mullet river on Sunday after the big storm. First time on this river. Was amazed at the alkalinity of the stream! Caddis larvae were on nearly every rock surface. Shells from hatchlings attached everywhere. Hatches were sporadic and only small trout observed rising. Worked my way from CTH J downstream to a large pool where I tied into something so large that I nearly got knocked over!! It fought and ran like a trout, but I observed some large carp nearby. It took my lure to the other side of the river where it surfaced for a split second... only long enough for me to see it was golden brown... If it was a brown trout it was at least 25 in. My bail was set way too low,.. so it ran and the bail screamed... It then spit out the lure on the other side of the river. Several casts later I picked up a nice 15" brown. After that only small ones and a bullhead. This river seems diverse enough, as one section with gravel bottom gives way to pools with silt. Any others with similar experiences?
