Mullet River

Sheboygan

5-1-1999

Weather: Sunny
Water: Clear
Hatches: Midges, Skeeters, Some BWO and Caddis
Time: 9:00 am-3:30 pm

Comments: Fished the Mullet on Saturday. Beautiful day on the river especially once you get past the worm plunkers who crowd the HWY J and C junction section. Caught several browns, 7" and 11". more exciting were the brookies, caught and released 3 brookies 9" 11" and 12". Observed some 16"-18" brookies in heavy cover which actually did not spook at my approach, but were totally unconcerned with feeding or my presence. Found some new areas on the river which have some deeper channels which hold fish. Chubs of course are the majority of fish caught. The Mullet is one of the only rivers in So WI with a bottom which downstream from la budde creek actually reminds me of the West.

The river is highly endangered though, through heavy use by worm fishers (hey dere, looky here! I caughted 30 fishes!), so please practice catch and release, and help lobby the DNR to place all such endangered streams in the artificial only category. Good Fishing!
