Comments: Spent three beautiful hours on the artificials-only section of the Mecan south of Dakota. A few fish were rising at ten minute intervals or so, but I didn't see anything hatching (until dusk, when tiny mayflies of about size 22 or 24 began rising from the water). I caught and released eight fish ranging from ten to 13 inches on a size 14 Henryville Sp. and a size 14 partridge and green. I didn't see a single Hex, so I don't know if the hatch is over, hasn't started, or took place later that night. I walked off the water at 10 p.m. and wandered through a gorgeous blizzard of lightning bugs back to my car.
