Steelhead Report

Kewaunee River

April 25, 1997

Weather: Clear, Sunny
Water Conditons: Clear
Hatches: na
Time: 3-7 P.M.

Comments: I started at 3:00 P.M. and hooked what turned out to be a beautiful 31" Steelhead at 3:30 P.M. I found a hole that was loaded with at least 6 trout. They were very picky at which Fly's they would chase. I finally tried a fly that was given to me as a gift by an old man on the river, which was the ugliest fly I ever saw. It was a size to hook covered in red copper wire with some gold and white tinsel with some deer hair wings and a big black head. They immediatly started to strike. They are also lots of small 6" hatchery fish that were just relesed, I also caught at least 20 of those. They bit on size 14 blue Dunn's.
