Steelhead Report

Kewaunee River

April 19, 1997

Weather: partly sunny
Water Conditions: low and clear
Hatches: possibly midges@9:45a.m.

Comments: Fished from 6:30a.m.-11:30a.m. 7 or 8 vehicles already there at 6:00a.m. Took a hefty hike upstream to get away from people but still saw 8 other fisherman. Nobody I talked to had any luck including myself, managed to fish 3 different fish but no takers even though I tried 7 different flies. Not many people siting fish but then most wrer plodding around in the stream, probably spooking them. I saw five steelhead and all had red tags attached to the base of the dorsal fin, really easy to spot in the clear water. I think I observed a midge hatch at 9:45a.m. does anybody fishing the Kewaunee this morning know what they were for sure. Looked like about a size 26 or 28.
