Streamside Report

Hay Creek, McCann Creek

Chippewa

03/09/98

Weather:35-40 F
Water: about 40 F real varied
Hatches: none really observed
Time: 1pm-5pm

Comments: Had a ball during the early season...Caught at least 30 trout in the 9 inch to 16 inch range in four hours. Convinced myself to go barbless all the time!!! Did'nt lose one fish to bad hooking! McCann yeilded lots of colorful brookies and Hay a combination of Brooks and Browns.

Lost the biggest brown of my twenty years of trout fishing...was reaching for it with the net and it got away..felt good being able to see it and knowing 20 plus inch trout are still around in some of the smaller streams!!

Anyway, mainly ultralight casting with 1/32 oz Black Panther Martin Spinners and "0" Mepps Black bodied spinners. Did have some luck with a small shad minnow floating it dead through the current, caught two 12 in Browns, three shiners and the far bank... end of the shad minnow!! Good luck and put them back alive!!!
