Weather: Snow / sleet
Water: 40 Deg Rough Chop
Hatches: none
Time: 9am - 11am
Comments: I don't know if I was simply lucky or this is the best kept secret around, but we just finished fishing off our dock this morning and caught 3 steelhead, 1 king salmon and 2 browns. This is my first time fishing these waters this early and was totally surprised by our luck. Fish took most any version of Clousers, chartruse, black/red smelt impressions, etc. All fish were over 7lbs, largest was the king at 17lbs! Steelhead was around 9lbs. What fun with a 5wt! We'll be back next weekend. Nothing better than fishing in the snow on Lake Michigan.
ps. If anybody out there can update me on whether or not this was a one time occurence or if this is common for spring spawning I would love to know. The fish are probably just returning to where they were released. We are used to seeing them in here in the fall, mostly sick and dying versions, but never knew that the good ones were here in the spring.
