Friends of the Prairie River Newsletter
August, 1999
How is everyone's summer going? Are you catching a lot of trout? I hope so!!!! The Friends of the Prairie River will be having it's 2nd Annual Picnic at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday August 21, 1999 right on the Prairie River at Bill Shockley's Cabin.
Directions to the Cabin: From Hwy. 64 in Merrill, Follow Hwy 17 north approximately 6 miles to Hwy. C. Turn Left on C then right on Shady Lane. There will be a driveway on the left side at the end of Shady Lane, the gate will be open. Hope to see you there!!!
The Friends of the Prairie River would also like to thank everyone that helped with the spring clean-up on the River and with the Adopt-A-Highway clean-up near the Echo Lake Rd. area. We were able to cover all the public access sites from Parrish down to the Hwy. C bridge. There were also two groups that performed clean-up from a canoe, which allowed them to cover from Hwy. J to Hay Meadow Creek and Shady Lane to the Hwy. C bridge. As you can see in the pictures below, there was a lot of garbage collected. Thanks to all that helped!!!!

Our Friends of the Prairie River patches, for your hat or fly vest, are done. If you have paid your membership fee ($25.00 or more) you should have received a patch in the mail. If you haven't received one or would like a membership form, call Pat at 848-3783 or Joe at 539-3863.
Nothing has been done with our decal. I sent a copy of it to a local print company and have not heard back from them yet. The Prairie River Area Map has been completed for the most part. I will bring a copy to the picnic for everyone to view. We will need to decide the most of cost effective way to get it produced and what will be or won't be on it.
If you want to be added to the Friends of the Prairie River e-mail list send it to joe820@aol.com
Hope to see you at the Picnic.
The Friends of the Prairie River organization was formed in January 1998 to help maintain its cold, clean waters and esthetic beauty and to benefit Prairie River trout populations and habitat. The Friends\rquote represent those who use the river for recreational purposes, those who live near its banks and all citizens interested in the preservation of the river as a natural resource. The Friends primary purposes are to promote the continued improvement of water quality in the river and to maintain and restore existing habitat and wildlife in the river.
