Comments: I haven't been on this site for a while and decided to check it out. I was pleased to see some people checking out some of the Eau Claire area streams. I read the reports on Duncan Creek. It is an awesome brookie stream. I also read about Elk Creek(River). It's actually Creek. I have had an excellent season on this creek so far this year. During the catch and release season I landed several trout on each outing. The date mentioned I had an exceptional outing. It was the weekend after opener and it was my first chance to get out for a few hours instead of a quick lunch break from work. From 12-1:30pm I drifted a bead-head pheasant tail nymph through a run and landed about 15-20 browns from 8"-12". Later I moved up to a deep hole and dragged a wooly bugger and landed six fish from 12"-16". At 2:45pm I decided to make a couple more casts and head home. My first of my last couple of casts, my strike indicator stopped and sunk slowly like a bobber. I set! the hook and thought I was snagged. I jerked my rod back a couple of times and the snag took off like a bat out of hell. FISH ON! I saw it flash and thought I had snagged a carp or huge sucker. After getting a decent visual of it trying to shake the hook, I saw its golden color, black spots and huge gaping jaws. It was a brown! Fair hooked! I was using Berkley Tilene 2lb. for my tippet. 20 minutes later I landed the largest brown I will probably land under the circumstances - small stream, flyfishing, 2lb test, and the middle of a mostly sunny day. He measured 26-1/4" long and weighed 8lbs 6oz. Now I am catch and release fisherman, but here I had to make an exception. He's going on the wall! The interesting thing is that he had a chunk bitten out of his tail that was pretty fresh. Maybe he has a little competition down in that deep hole. I plan on finding out.
