Nice to know there are some out there still. And the variety of posts is tribute to the fact that they are remarkable no matter what, but...Bryan C. has it right. Sliced in rings. For cleaning them the less contact with fluid the better unless they are buggy and full of dirt. The condition of the ones you found looks great. If that is the case I usually tap them on some paper or cloth (this gets rid of bugs, sand, and dead bits of shroom), slice them into rings, and fry them in a little butter with salt and pepper. Storage advice will vary, but flyanglers storage advice is right on. I have no idea why to avoid a huge belly full of morels, though, if you found too many to eat.

Volunteer Action - June 2 - Bear Creek LUNKER day

Our much-anticipated 2nd Annual LUNKER-Building Day at our Bear Creek
Habitat Improvement Project (BCHIP) site is almost upon us. To be held on
Saturday, June 2, this will be a wonderful opportunity for you to see Bear
Creek up close, and play a part in this exciting restoration project. The
LUNKER structures will be placed in the stream by our project contractor,
Holtz Lime & Gravel of Loganville, during Phase II of the restoration
process this summer.

We're hoping for the biggest turnout ever for a work day project, which we
are again co-hosting with the Southeast Chapter. We also hope to see
members from our chapters in Illinois, as well as from throughout Wisconsin.

As we did with Phase I, in Phase II the stream will be deepened and
narrowed, and structures will be strategically added to create more
riffle/pool habitat. Banks will be repaired, stabilized and tapered to
reduce erosion and siltation. The project will even include features to
improve habitat for non-game species such as turtles and birds.

The project is located on the Fargen property along Highway 130 about 2.5
miles north of Bear Valley in far western Sauk County. Watch for the signs.
Most will be travelling there via Highway 14. When you get near Lone Rock,
you want to take Highway 130 going north.

Everyone's welcome, regardless of age or physical ability. There will be
plenty to do besides the heavy work, such as preparing food, taking
pictures, giving orders, lending moral support, offering fishing advice and
much more.

Dress appropriately, including work boots, gloves, hat, as well as eye and
ear protection. Although the SE Chapter has the equipment to set up several
work stations, it's possible we may need additional portable generators,
compressors, framing nail guns, large corded drills and power cords. If
you have any of these items and you don't mind throwing them in your truck,
even if we don't end up needing them, please feel free to do so. Also, last
year we realized how important cordless drills can be, so if you have them,
bring them.

Work begins at 9 a.m., and food and drink will be provided for all
volunteers. The SE Chapter's "Grillmasters" will prepare a great lunch, and
we encourage everyone to find a place for an afternoon or evening of fishing
in nearby streams.
