Comments: Fished the artificials-only section of the Brule upstream from the Winneboujou bridge on HWY B early Saturday morning. A glorious morning. Lots of small fish in the 6-10 inch range--brook trout, browns, and rainbows--taking size 18 elk hair caddis. Light caddis hatch, on and off, and a light BWO hatch began about nine o'clock. Later, working down and across, I switched to a size 14 Pass Lake wet. It would barely hit the water and the brookies would be on it--while it was still on the surface! Twitched beneath the surface, swinging as my line tightened, the fly was equally successful. The biggest fish that I took and released on it was a 13" brown. Looking forward to Brown Drakes in the evenings, soon. This river is too beautiful for words.
