Comments: Two of my friends and I head out to do same steelheading instead of going to the opening day circus. We started out on the Branch river and and started to see some fish on the redds shortly after we got on the river. I was the lucky one and got the Hen to hit an charuse egg on a dropper. I had her on for a good 10 min be for she broke off. She looked nice and fresh, I'm sure it was a Ganaraska, because of the size and color. There were 4-5 bucks on the redd with her on. My friend Steve had one of them on for a short time. We seen several other fish in the river, but we had other plans.
Next we head to Shoto (West branch of the Twin river) When we got there the water was high and cloudy like the Branch. Just as we parked a fisherman had a hooked into one. We got our stuff on and head to the water. I had a fish on for a few second, and my other friend Todd also hook into one for a short time. There seem to be a lot of fish in the river, but the action seemed to slow down after an 1/2 hour. So we made a quick stop at Mishicot (East branch of the Twin river) there was not much happen there so we head for our next stop.
At Kewaunee we stopped at the weir to look at the fish. There were a good number of fish in the ladder and holding tanks. They look like both Ganaraska and Chamber Creek fish. The white board inside the building said that they had collected eggs from 340 fish and had put 2000+ fish up river. So we try our luck up river. We only seen a few older looking fish up river. Todd seen some fish rising and grabbed his 4 wt rod and caught a few yearling steelhead on dry flies. Now he can say he has caught a steelhead on a dry fly!
We are think of going again this week for one last time. Then this weekend it's back to Turkey hunting in the AM and fishing the inland rivers in the PM. Steve :-)
