Steelhead Report

Branch River

April 17, 1997

Weather: clear sky, breezy
Water Conditions: low,clear
Hatches: none

Comments: Fished from 6:30-12:30,air temp.27degrees at start rising to 49 degrees when I quit. Water very clear, saw only 3 fish in the half mile or so of stream I fished. Two of the fish floated downstream almost right next to me,they stayed on the surface rolling around each other for 75yds. before dissapearing in a deep run. Tried different flies and streamers with no luck. Saw the third fish in a mid stream pool but spooked it on my approach, should have crept lower. Didn't see what looked like any spawning redds, must be too early for the Branch yet. Didn't see any other fisherpersons either which is really nice. Might try the Kewaunee this wk. end. Good Luck
