Weather: Rain earlier in day, overcast, 73
Water: Med. high, somewhat stained
Hatches: ???
Time: 5:30-9:00pm
Comments: I'm not good on my entomology, so cut me a little slack. Had a short but strong rainfall about 11:30am. Tried several areas of the stream and saw a few mayflies, but nothing feeding (didn't expect it with the stained water). About to give up around 8:00pm, but decided to put something deep under one of the bridges. Ended up seeing surface feeding at this point on what I think were brown caddis. Would've been more, but a pair of flycatchers on a branch above me were snagging about 2 out of every 3 bugs that got close to the stream (saw him eyeing my backcast a couple of times). I used a brown elk-hair caddis and a parachute BWO to take the nicest 2 browns I've ever caught (bigger one was around 13 inches - released both to fight another day). Soon after that the trout switched to something small that was emerging, but I couldn't see it at all as it was almost 9:00. Kind of frustrating to see so many trout and have nothing they were interested in, but it wa! s fun also. Within 10 feet in any direction around me there were trout actually shooting out of the water. Had a great time, but had to explain why I was so late getting home!
