Streamside Report

Black Earth Creek

Dane

6/23/98

Weather: Partly cloudy/Scattered T-Storms
Water: Kind of high/a little mirky
Hatches: Hex, Caddis, Midges
Time: 8:30-11:30

Comments: Got on the river about 8:45 with a thunder storm rumbling in the background, luckly it nevr hit us. A friend hooked a nice Brown on his second cast, mid-air as it jumped out of the water for a small brown drake. I caught some some Rainbows, Browns, and Brookies on weighted hares ear nymphs, lifting the rod tip at the end of a swing. Nothing coming off as we got there but as night approached tons of midges and caddis came out with some sporatic Hex acctivity. I got a nice 14 inch Brown on a Dry Hex immitation at about 10:15. I pumped it's stomach and found nothing but Hexes. Inhaled many caddis as I turned on my headlamp to do so. First time night fishing, it was awesome.
