Weather: Hot, sunny, windy
Water: cloudy (for a spring creek)
Hatches: sparse sulphurs
Time: early afternoon
Comments: Fished Black Earth Creek on Saturday. Weather was nice for being outside, but lousy for fishing a spring creek... Hard to find active fish in 80 degrees and bright sun. I did find some actively crusing browns in Salmo Pond, a spring pond that feeds into Black Earth just off of HWY 14. The were quite spooky, but I managed to hook quite a few on a variety of nymphs and wets, with a scud producing the best. The creek itself was quite cloudy. The fishing was much tougher there. I did manage to catch a brown and a rainbow out of a riffle on a sulphur dun. Not much of a hatch on, but enough flies around to bring a few fish up. The wind made casting miserable. Spring creek fishing is not my specialty, so I quit early enouugh to head home and fish until dark on another river.
