Weather: 30 degrees, overcast
Water: low, clear and cold
Hatches: midges

Comments: Cold and cloudy but it turned out to be a terrific day of fishing. The wind was blowing hard but I was able to cast well once I switched to a 6/7 weight rod. Caught a beautiful brown on the second cast of the season using a cinnamon caddis nymph #20. Caught 6 more browns in th 10-12" range on the same or a gold ribbed hares ear #20. The best fish of the day came right before I left. A fat, 16" brown (I measured him) right in the middle of a shallow riffle, shot after the nymph like a bullet. I was using 7X tippet so I was surprised to bring him to hand. No rainbows which surprised me since there were so many last year. On my trip back downstream, I had two break offs on #16 black wooly buggers. Excellent day.
