Comments: Despite the relative absence of reports, it's been another fine season on the Big Green. This Saturday outing was no exception; many fine trout intercepted my usual team of weighted nymphs as they drifted through the deeper holes and runs. Action was slow early, as is typical after clear, cold autumn nights especially on the Big Green where the water is always cold anyway. Dry fly action was just getting started when I left, and I suspect that the prime time for 'hopper fishing was 2pm-5pm today. But you have to get on the water early to have a stretch of river to fish; by the time I left there were at least two vehicles parked at every common access point. All trout ran 8-15" (measured), and the larger browns were sporting the bright colors and hooked jaws that portend the coming spawning season. It's worth adding that I've had much better fishing on the upstream sections of the Big Green this year than I have on the Category 5 water below CTH "T". In clo!
sing, it was a fine outing on a great stream.
"Just one cast more! How many a year
By how many a brook and stream,
Amid the falling leaves and sere,
I've sighed, reeled up, and dreamed my dream."
