Weather: cloudy, windy, mid 50's, some rain
Water: slightly off color
Hatches: sparse BWO
Time: afternoon
Comments: Fished the Big Green two afternoons in a row after turkey hunting (in the rain) during the morning. While the hunting proved to be futile, the fishing almost made up for it. I was fishing the catch-and-release stretch near CTH K. On wednesday afternoon I caught about 25 browns up to about 15 inches. I was fishing a tan scud and pheasant tail combo with a strike indicator. Nearly all of the fish took the scud.
On thursday the fishing was a little slower, but I still managed to catch many fish. A sparse BWO hatch (about size 18) was coming off. I caught several smallish browns on a parachute BWO, and even one that was about 14 inches. I still fished with the nymph because the surface activity was slight. The pheasant tail nymph took all of the fish. Obviously the trout were taking the BWO nymphs that were hatching. The highlight of the day was a beautiful 17 brown taken from a deep run on the pheasant tail. He jumped at least half a dozen times, and made some powerful runs that actually made my drag sing!!
